The Central Texas Chapter #117 of Certified Fraud Examiners

President’s Report

Well everyone here we are again – another year ending for our small group. We have once again achieved our goals of attaining inexpensive quality CPE for our members. However, we have not been able to expand our membership numbers, actually having a slight decrease of two members. We had 24 members this year. I stated in my address with last year’s report that I was hoping to organize two 8 hour CPE events as we had done in prior years but unfortunately that obviously did not occur. Additionally, during my tenure, I did not have a Vice President to assist me. Penny and Paul have very ably and willingly helped in those instances when I really needed the assistance.

For your information attached herein is a copy of our annual report of operations during the year. As you can see, we are in wonderful financial condition for such a small chapter.

Previously, I emailed the entire membership detailing the precarious position of the chapter’s continued existence. Put simply, we are in dire need of some of our other members volunteering to serve as chapter officers and/or board members so that current officers and board members can take a much-needed break in service. Some of these folks have been deeply involved in the activities of the chapter since its organization. I hate to inform everyone of this urgency. Paul and Penny have graciously agreed to serve the chapter as interim president and vice-president, respectively, in sort of a winding-down effort with the hopes that someone else will step up to the plate by the end of this next fiscal year ending July 31, 2010. Otherwise, the chapter may be forced to dissolve. Please call me, Paul, or Penny if you could help to prevent the undesirable dissolution. I think all of us would prefer to see this chapter continue in existence providing a good source of inexpensive CPE and professional fellowship.

To all of our board members and officers this year, thank you for the dedicated service to the chapter.

President Elect’s Message to the Membership

During the five year existence of our chapter, a small number of the members have repeatedly volunteered their time to serve in one or more positions of service to the chapter as officers and directors. However, we are at the point now where those people need and deserve a break from that dedicated service.

Frankly, the chapter’s continued existence depends entirely on the success, within the next year, of the other members of the chapter stepping forward and volunteering for these positions. If other members will step into these spots, to give these current officers and directors the break in service that they so clearly need and deserve, the chapter can continue its current course of business – thereby providing a good source of inexpensive CPE for our chapter members. Otherwise, we are not likely to continue doing so beyond this next fiscal year.

The Board of Directors discussed this issue at our last business meeting. I and Penny Stephenson agreed to function temporarily as President and Vice President, respectively, for this next fiscal year. In addition, the other current officers have agreed to serve in their same respective positions for this next year. However, these agreements were made with the understanding and hopes that other members will step forward to take over within the year. Please consider calling me to volunteer for any of the chapter’s elected or appointed positions. Absence of such volunteers or a revitalization of the Chapters officers and programs, may result in the untimely demise of our Chapter, its successful programs, and the low cost CPE credits offered through our Training Seminars.

Should you have any ideas of what do to further enhance the chapter or its programs, please feel free to contact me directly by phone at (254) 634-2377 or by e-mail at: 75thrangerdad@hot.rr.com.

THANKS.

Paul E. Sawyer, President Elect
